56 Days: I'm Still Here

56 Days: I'm Still HereA woman’s clothing restricts and shapes perceptions of her identity. This exhibition catalogs 56 days of performance, throughout which I examined the struggle to resist or accept gender roles within the confines of my relationship.

Technoetic Rainforest
Large heavy plate steel panels are suspended from a frame. A vitrine is partially filled with water. The space is filled with sounds given off by the vibrations. A camera captures the visual effect of the vibrations on the water. The computer analyzes the image of the vibrating water, making decisions about the shifting visual data. These decisions generate control signals that modulate the outbound audio.

Paths of Transition
A five day performance wearing an army uniform covered in 53 speakers. The speakers play stories of soldiers experiences being in the military, transitioning to civilian life, spouses experience being in the military, and news coverage of the Iraq and Afghanistan war.

I am a new media artist working in a variety of mediums that illustrates a struggle to reveal or hide personal conflicts by watching, hearing, interacting or incorporating my body as part of the medium. My work illustrates a shift from disembodied representations of personal conflict to embodied presentations where I submerge myself into an experience that illustrates and reenacts the conflict.

My work includes interactive installations, audio, video, animation, mixed media installations, electronics, graphic design, web design and fine art.
